Rolling Hills Water Park

Last week we had a fun-filled day at a nearby water park with our playgroup. We went to Rolling Hills Water Park in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

That’s right; all us moms sported our suits proudly for our kiddos.  We put any body issues we may have had aside and made some amazing memories with our children. I am so glad our children will have memories to treasure when they get older of their mothers playing in the water with them, going down the lazy river, enjoying their time together as opposed to meagerly sitting on the side covered, fearful of what others may think, allowing others potential judgments to hijack an amazing day and a treasured time together. Or worse yet, not going to the water park at all. So, first and foremost, I want to give a cheer to all the moms out there who sport the suits no matter what body type, and enjoy their time with their children.  Here is a picture of 4 out of the 6 moms that attended; we missed the other two because they had already left for nap time…

As a mommy to 3 young kiddos I am always fearful around water. Well, maybe fearful is the wrong word; cautious might be more appropriate a description. But Rolling Hills Water Park accommodated little ones so nicely. And thankfully I had my sister with me to help with our 23 month old little lady who is a huge fan of the water. The kiddos had so much fun in the spaygrounds…..

The lazy river was also a fan favorite, my 5-year-old son couldn’t get enough and he loved the fact that at the end, if you wished, you could get splashed with water, twice! Of course that is the route he chose when mommy went in the double tube with him, he loved it! He ended up going down the lazy river at least half a dozen times that day.

All the kiddos in the playgroup loved the wave pool. I have to admit I even enjoyed chilling in a tube while the waves went by.

The slide was another kiddo favorite. They have a larger slide for big kids and adults and a small slide for toddlers and preschoolers.

If it wasn’t for a direr need for nap time we would have spent all day at the park. And that would have been a steal considering the fact that the price for admission is $8 weekdays for non-residents and children fewer than 3 ft. tall are free!

This is definitely one water park we will be frequenting.

So what are your thoughts on water parks? Do you go there with your children? Do you worry about them picking up something (germs!!) in the changing areas?  Do you worry about other kiddos, bigger kiddos? Is there a water park your family frequents?

That looks like a great waterpark! I would love to see some pics of the toddler area if you have some you can share with me. Was the equipment slippery? I still hope to try some waterparks around here first. I think if we did a waterpark now, Walter would always dread going back. It would not make a good memory for him, especially since swimming lessons are so traumatic. Hopefully he will be ready in the next year or two so it can be enjoyable for us.

The toddler area is basically a small section off to the side with water squirting up from the ground and a water table/fountain, and a larger fountain. The smaller slide was a big hit with the 2 and 3 year olds too! I think you are right, give it a year and I think you will be surprised how much Walter will like it. In fact, maybe if we all go together again next year he will see the other kiddos and lose any anxiety he might have?

After looking at the website, I think I should have just taken Genevieve. She loves to play in the water and Walter could have stayed home and I could have explained that we were doing something that he doesn’t like. At first I didn’t think that would be fair, but why hold Genevieve back from the fun! I will definitely take her next year and am considering going once school starts. I just wish they opened earlier than 11.

That is such a great idea, a “mommy and me “day. If you want company though we would totally come!
