The Ultimate Mother Daughter Date & Moms Day Out Destination in Toledo

Pink floral china patterns adorn with gold trim, frilly tablecloths, doilies, pocket pies, shortbreads, & truffles, a light hum of classical music, gorgeous ladies draped in beautiful flowing sundresses relaxing, sans smartphones. That is the fantasy image that comes to mind when I think of a tea party. In reality, if I hosted a tea party it would more than likely consist of whatever dishes were clean, a hodgepodge of colors & prints in plastics, and my finest coffee mugs adorn with classic sayings, such as, “there’s a chance this is wine”. A flat bed sheet with either super heroes or princesses on it would serve as a tablecloth. And for the menu, Tim Horton’s finest variety packs of Timbits and peanut butter & jelly sandwiches in whatever shaped cookie cutter the kids haven’t destroyed with play dough. KIDS BOP as background noise accompanied by the dog barking, and for the entertainment my son and his practical jokes…like fake poop, bloody finger, etc. on the table that results in all the ladies screaming and running from the house in terror but not before snapping pics with their phones that go viral #teapartyterror.  Yep, the chances of me being able to host a classy tea party at home are slim to none, which is why I am so grateful for Sweet Shalom Tea Room.

Tea Room

Sweet Shalom Tea Room offers the perfect destination for a Mother Daughter date and/or a Moms Day Out. Located at 8216 Erie Street it is full of history, it was originally a small farmhouse built over 140 years ago and was enlarged and remodeled in Queen Anne style architecture in the late 1800’s, in 1999 the house was saved from demolition and moved from its original location at the southeast corner of Centennial and Erie Street. Even the location adds to the experience, I love it!!

The name “Sweet Shalom Tea Room” was inspired by the biblical word “shalom”. The definition of shalom includes peace, harmony, completeness, wholeness, wellness and perfection.  You can literally feel your blood pressure drop as you enter the house and are greeted by peace and harmony.

Sweet Shalom Tea Room offers 2 Seatings on Friday and Sundays at 11am or 2:30pm and has Special Events throughout the year. Each Seating has a fun, well thought-out themed menu!!! I am already swooning over September’s; it’s Anne of Green Gables!!!

We met up with some good friends for a Mother Daughter double date and had an absolute blast! It was literally the most enjoyable afternoon that I have had in a long time, there is something about slowing down, sipping tea, escaping from the fast-paced world that truly lifts the spirit. The theme for our tea seating was “Glamping” and the ladies at Sweet Shalom Tea Room did a fabulous job, the food, craft, tea, etc. was spot on….right down to the girls roasting their own marshmallows!!

Have special dietary needs? Have no fear; you don’t have to miss out on tea. They are very accommodating. They put together a beautiful vegan spread for me; they do ask that you share your dietary requirements when you make your reservations.
