With modern life being exciting, busy, and filled with things to do, it can be hard for a lot of young people to find interest in their religion. While they will develop an understanding of the importance of this part of their life as they get older, many young people struggle to take their faith seriously. Not only will they have plenty of other exciting things in their lives to focus on, but religion is often filled with old traditions and ideas that don’t always make sense to someone from a new generation. This doesn’t mean that your youngsters are going down the wrong path, though; it just means that you need to find some ways to get them interested in their faith.
Fashion & Clothing
Teenagers often care about few things more than the clothing they wear. They will want to make sure that they are fashionable, and many of the symbols and designs found within traditional Christian circles simply don’t give off the right image. Instead, it’s worth looking for Christian t-shirts, hoodies, and other garments that reflect the designs of the clothing your child already wears. This will enable you to bring faith into something they already enjoy, while also giving them a constant reminder of their beliefs whenever they see themselves wearing them. Of course, though, you have to give your youngster some choice in this process.
Music is another area that young people tend to care a lot about, though it’s rare to find them listening to hymns and other religious music when they are outside of the church. This is something that can be overcome with a little bit of research, with Christian musicians found in just about every genre imaginable. Of course, while some people believe that some forms of music are inherently evil, it’s worth keeping in mind that a lot of these ideas developed as a way to stop people from exercising their freedoms, rather than to support the sanctity of God.
Movies & Entertainment
Movies and other forms of video entertainment can be a little harder to find Christian examples of, though this is something that can be overcome with some work. There are plenty of films out there that explore religion and its importance, along with the journeys that people have to take when they are discovering their own religion. Alongside this, films like The Passion of the Christ have met worldwide acclaim, covering the life and death of Jesus with a little bit of drama to make it more interesting. The Bible is a rather exciting book when you read it from cover to cover, and many directors and other creatives have tried to capture this on the big screen.
Be Honest & Open
Going through being a teenager is a complex and often overwhelming process for a person. They are developing their mind and personality, and things like religion can play a major role in this. Of course, though, at the same time, they need to be given information that is accurate to be able to form their own opinions properly. Having faith in something doesn’t mean that you know for a fact that it is real, and it’s never right to push personal beliefs on someone else. Instead, you should work to encourage their faith to blossom.
It can be hard to make sure that your children are taking their faith seriously. To start, most children simply won’t understand this part of life, and this means that they need to be given tools that will help them to build a better understanding without it being forced down their throats. Of course, though, this is something you will have to work on overtime.
