Temps are rising, days are longer, and summer is officially upon us! Cue the lazy long weekends at the lake, bonfires in the country, sunset cruises down the river, and shopping for the kids’ summer wardrobe!
As a mom of teenagers, this can take a substantial amount of time, at least for my teenage daughters. You do not know hell until you have been in a fitting room with an adolescent daughter who is determined to find the perfect body in a bathing suit. Yes, you read correctly, teenage girls are hoping that with each subsequent bathing suit they try on, they will find their preferred summer body. And since they are only allowed six articles of clothing at a time, guess who gets to work up a sweat and hot flashes sprinting for a different color, size, and cut? Yep, tired, hormonal, premenopausal moms. And let me tell you, when those daughters do not find their perfect summer body by the 57th bathing suit they try on, guess whose fault it is? Heredity. Thus, it’s you, it’s your fault, Mom! You gave her that body, and now she will never have the perfect summer body in the perfect summer bathing suit, all because of your stupid genes, your stupid birthing hips, broad shoulders, and weird feet. This is when I thank God for giving me two daughters and a son.

Being both a girl mom and boy mom is such a blessing, especially in the summertime, after dealing with all the body insecurities, wardrobe complaints, and how unfair heredity is, after all, why did one daughter get curly hair and the other straight? It is such a reprieve when I take my teenage son shopping. In fact, it’s so easy that you can join us. Here we go, it just takes three simple steps. First, grab the laptop. Second, sit on the couch. Third, open your laptop and start shopping. Here’s what my teenage son decided on for his wardrobe this summer…
Here’s my teenage son’s summer lawn mowing hoodie…
Here’s the sweatshirt my teenage son picked out for the beach…
Here’s my teenage son’s amusement and waterpark sweatshirt…
And lastly, his all-encompassing, wearing to the beach, work, mowing lawns, etc., men’s running shoes that he will be wearing all summer and will probably smell so bad by the end of the season, I will have to burn them…
Beyond those four articles of clothing, I have been told not to worry as a mom because he is good. How? How does he not need more underwear, socks, shorts, sweatpants, or a bathing suit? I don’t know, I honestly don’t, but somehow it just works. Somehow, he still grows and manages to make things work, and I have learned not to ask too many questions and just be thankful. Shout-out to all the boy moms out there, can you relate? Not one? Know boy moms? Share this with a fellow boy mom and/or girl mom, it’s always comforting to know that we aren’t alone.
