It never fails, the minute the temps finally rise after a brutal frigid winter the rain starts falling. Spring in the Midwest is like a mashup of the movies Groundhog Day and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, it’s gentle, then vicious, and it just repeats like that until summer. Well, to be fair, we do usually receive a solid 24 beautiful hours of spring at some point, but don’t blink because you will miss it. The fact that the weather is more unpredictable in the spring months is really discouraging for us parents who are trying so hard to make certain that children are receiving the recommended amount of physical activity each day. Especially this school year, with most children sitting in front of computer screens, not receiving physical education weekly, or even recess. Before long the impacts of a sedentary lifestyle set in and the symptoms can not only be significant but detrimental to their overall health.
