Where You Should Put a Fireplace in Your Home

Although you might not think you can add a fireplace to your home, the possibilities are endless. Whether you want it for the supplemental heat or the ambiance it creates, you and your family will enjoy the incredible addition to your home. With that in mind, where you should put a fireplace in your home depends on the type you choose and where you would like the extra heat.

Where To Heat

The first thing to consider is which part of your home you want to heat. For example, if you would like to get the most use out of the fireplace, you should consider putting one in your most-used room, such as your living or dining room. On the other hand, installing a fireplace in a smaller, easier-to-heat room, such as a bedroom or home office, is much more efficient and practical.

Gas vs. Electric vs. Wood

The next thing to consider is whether you prefer a gas, electric, or wood fireplace. Each one of them has incredible features, but it all depends on your family’s personal preferences and where you want to put it.

Gas fireplaces are safe, easy to use, and relatively affordable. In addition, you can easily adjust the amount of heat produced by the fireplace. However, gas options require ventilation. With that in mind, you must have a chimney or vent pipe installed and place the fireplace accordingly.

Electric fireplaces are the ultimate choice for many homeowners because they’re relatively affordable and incredibly easy to maintain. Luckily, you can put an electric fireplace insert into an existing fireplace or install new construction. This is a perfect option for those who want the look and feel of a real fire but don’t want the hassle of cleaning it up.

Wood-burning fireplaces create an incredible ambiance, and they look more natural than the alternative options. However, they are relatively expensive to install and require a chimney. With a chimney, wood-burning fireplaces also require annual maintenance by a professional.

Which Is Right for You?

Deciding whether a gas, electric, or wood fireplace is right for you can be difficult. Still, your decision should be relatively straightforward once you consider your budget and where it would fit into your home. For example, electric fireplaces are readily available for those that want them, but gas and wood fireplaces require much more consideration.

As you can see, where you should put a fireplace in your home depends on more than one factor. Making the right placement choice for your family should be a matter of personal preference, budget, and the layout of your home.
