Make-A-Wish® creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. The organization is on a quest to bring every eligible child’s wish to life, because a wish is an integral part of a child’s treatment journey.
Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky, & Indiana (Make-A-Wish OKI) will celebrate the dozens of life-changing wishes granted last year in northwest Ohio, and the generous community who helped bring those wishes to life at the Northwest Ohio BIG Wish® Gala presented by Toledo Molding & Die, Inc. on Friday, April 12th at Renaissance Toledo Downtown Hotel.
This year’s gala honors the 15th anniversary of wish kid Travis’ book, “The Spider Who Never Gave Up.” Make-A-Wish OKI granted Travis’ wish to write the inspirational children’s book in 2004. Since then, Travis, who battles Cystic Fibrosis, has donated and sold more than 10,000 copies!
“Make-A-Wish is the reason I became the person that I am today.
“After a lifetime of Cystic Fibrosis and two double-lung transplants, I have learned a lot about life and purpose,” said Travis. “Make-A-Wish is the reason I became the person that I am today. My purpose was to make sure Sparkey’s message reached people. Make-A-Wish fulfilled my purpose.”
Several wish kids will be honored during the program including wish kid Braylon. His parents will share about his wish experience to go to the Pro Bowl.

Throw an epic b-day party or give an awesome gift? Hmmm, the decision can be a tough one! Especially when it comes to our kiddos! As parents is it smarter to throw our kiddos a party or use that money to go towards an awesome gift? This was the dilemma the hubs & I were dealing with recently. So, like the nerd I am I did a little research. Here are my findings….
While experiences are designed to be fleeting, they provide high level of arousal & memorability thanks to anticipation. Example, you hear your favorite artist is coming to town so you mark your calendar not only for the date of the show, but also when tickets go on sale. You’re anticipating purchasing tickets and then attending a show after you’ve secured your tickets. Going to this show is an entire experience, not just a singular moment!! Nah-uh…was my first “adult” thought upon reading all the studies, Lol! So I took it a step further and wracked my brain trying to remember what I received as my b-day gifts as a child at my McDonalds b-day party, at the awesome party my mom threw at home, or the 3 epic parties my mom threw at the Hilton (my b-day is in January…she got two rooms and I invited 6 friends to swim, a swim party in January, it was LIT!), nothing! I legit have no idea what I received as gifts at any of my b-day parties…I can remember the parties like it was yesterday, not so much the gifts.

Snook’s Dream Cars displays the extensive collection of “long time car guy” Bill Snook (deceased) and operated by his son Jeff Snook. It features a recreated 1940s era Texaco gas station, a showroom of extensive automobile memorabilia and a car collection presented within period scenes ranging from a 1930s general store to a racetrack from the 1960s.The car collection, which features models from the 1930s to the 1960s, includes coupes, convertibles, sedans, roadsters and racecars, made by Cadillac, Ford, Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac, Packard, Kaiser, Willys, Jaguar, Triumph, MG and Lotus. The facility also houses a complete four-bay shop for maintaining collector cars.
Public tours of the factory are available on their Dum Dums Trolley Wednesday through Friday 10 am to 3:00 pm ET. There are no reservations. Tours are on a first come, first served basis. You may wish to call ahead for information. Store & Museum admission is free – tour prices are shown below.
Due to safety and FDA regulations, the trolley tour will not go through the main kitchen areas, but will go through the warehouse areas and their most recent addition, the Portland Street expansion. It is the 87th production expansion in company history and nearly 20,000 square feet in size. Visitors are able to see their palletization area and automatic case packers. Candy cooking and forming in the kitchen areas will be shown via a DVD player while on the trolley tour.
Factory tour prices are: Adults $5, Children 6-18 years $3, Children 5 & Under Free with paid Adult, Seniors $4. Tours will not be offered on any day that is a holiday for the factory.

The National Museum of the Great Lakes is a fun and unique experience for all. Learn about the rich history our Great Lakes have afforded us, making up 84% of all the fresh water in North America it is no surprise they are treasured waters. Explore the history and enjoy some hands-on displays as you learn about one of the world’s greatest natural resources. Kids will be intrigued by all the means of transit along the Lakes, including the huge ship, the Schoonmaker just outside the museum in the Maumee River, (tours of the ship are offered May-Oct). Be sure to stop in the museum store so the kiddos can pick out some souvenirs to commemorate their visit.
Sylvania Playland is the one and only indoor bounce house and playground in Sylvania! Come in and play on their five inflatables, four swing sets and toddler area. Calling all history buffs and those simply intrigued by the vast history located in NW Ohio tour this an amazing 1868 Romanesque Revival two-story brick building that originally housed Wauseon’s first high school, and later, the county’s first hospital. Experience thirteen rooms that showcase permanent historic exhibits of hidden historical gems. Listen to locally written abolition hymns of the Underground Railroad movement in the county; see the crackling campfire of local Civil War soldiers and the museum’s extensive collection of Civil War era artifacts which are the impressive centerpiece of this exhibit.
Call ahead and make an appointment to see the Depot! Two blocks south of the museum, visit the Wauseon Depot. A collection of items from Fulton County’s railroad past, which included 6 steam lines and two electric inner urban lines, is on display inside the depot. Watch and listen to an O-scale working model railroad display that highlights Fulton County’s railroad 1920s hay-day.

Camp participants will learn many techniques for decorating their very own cakes! Over the course of the camp, we will practice general frosting, writing, making flowers, borders, and other frosting techniques. Additionally, we will practice writing with frosting, making flowers, borders and coloring frosting.
STEM is perfectly suited to kids' natural desires to explore, experiment and get a little messy! Students will explore science, technology, engineering and math with fun, hands-on activities and always with a focus on learning.
In this hand-on baking camp students will learn how to make simple kid-friendly recipes they can make at home on their own all summer long. Starting with the basic techniques every good baker needs to know, you’ll learn to be a “wiz” in the kitchen!

FENCING: Learn the basic positions, footwork, terminology, safety rules, etiquette and the sportsmanship of foil fencing. In partnered drills, students will learn to advance, retreat, thrust, lunge, parry and riposte, culminating in a fencing tournament!
ARCHERY: Learn basic techniques and various types of shooting, eye dominance, archery safety rules, warm-up exercise, proper shooting techniques, “basic steps”, grouping and consistency and scoring, culminating in shooting contests!
Please join us for a busy, fun-filled week, as we learn the basics of playing the piano. You will learn to read sheet music by the end of the week! You will also gain experience and knowledge that will help you continue on your musical journey!
Each day will feature visual journaling techniques to make your sketchbooks inspired and engaging followed by in-depth exploration of a new media: Drawing, Painting, Ceramics and Graphic Design. The artistic adventure will close with a studio gallery feature, showcasing your new artistic masterpieces!
Students will practice a variety of pose sequences designed to help them discover greater strength, flexibility, and stress-relief. Asanas (postures) are practiced at an age appropriate pace with attention to alignment, meditation, mindfulness, and self-acceptance. All levels of yoga experience welcome!
Our introductory class is designed for new sewers with minimal or no experience. Learn the fundamentals of operating a sewing machine and basic stitching techniques. Discover what types of needles are suitable for different fabrics and how to prepare the machine tension for different fabrics and much more. Students will create two projects to take home with them to show off their skills!
This advanced class is designed for sewers with experience. We want them to continue to learn the fundamentals of operating a sewing machine and basic stitching techniques and also learn techniques for more advanced projects.
Kids will have a blast learning to make Italian favorites including, fresh pasta, homemade sauces and more in this hands-on cooking class! You will be amazed at the delicious Italian meals you can make with a little know-how and a few fresh ingredients. The techniques they learn here will stick with the rest of their lives. Ciao!
During this introductory week of this course, you will learn basic coding language and how to “mark-up” web documents using HTML. Additionally, you will learn how to style your own webpage documents, using CSS, which is the “presentational code” behind the website.
By learning to fuse and slump glass, participants will create their own “works of art” in this hands-on camp! Come join us, and release your “inner artist!”
Participants in this course will learn the “basics” of child care. Topics will include engaging in age-appropriate activities, safety, security and handling emergency situations and managing those hard-earned dollars! Basic child care skills will include diapering, feeding and maintaining a safe environment. Students will learn how to properly administer CPR in a life-threatening emergency, such as choking.
The Cookie Crazy Camp is just as it sounds–tons of fun baking and creating cookies at NDA! Campers will spend four days learning to use cut outs, refining their frosting skills, decorating techniques, and more!
Participants in 3D Printing camp will use the engineering design process along with 3D printing technology to invent a prototype to solve a problem. Simple computer aided design software will be used to navigate their idea to a tangible object.
Discover tips and techniques on how to become a better-rounded performer! Come sharpen your audition skills by improving vocal technique and your ability to learn choreography and movement on the stage. You will also discover the art of character development and acting through music in this funand dynamic camp!
Bring out your “inner actress” in this creative and action packed camp! Develop your creativity, learn about costumes, play theater games and more throughout the week.
NDA’s stellar faculty will teach 8th grade girls how to be more confident and prepared for the High School Placement Test (HSPT). During the four-day collaborative course, students will review the test design, learn general standardized test-taking strategies, and explore the test content in an interactive, energetic classroom environment. On the last day, students will take a full-length graded practice test.
We will start with games to get your creative juices flowing, then you will delve into creative, short story and/or poetry writing and/ or illustration. Along the way, we will work on strengthening your writing skills!
Tantalize your taste buds with these crazy experiments! Our edible science camp encourages kids to explore the world around them using hands on activities and tasty recipes. They will learn the basics of biology and chemistry in a fun and educational environment.

Today is the official day of take-off, our Lenten journey begins today. Did you pack accordingly? Do you have your itinerary ready? What about shoes, did you pack the right shoes? You don’t want to get blisters! The truth of the matter is most of us are spending more time contemplating footwear for a mini-vacation than we do our entire 40 day Lenten journey. Why? Because, when that flight attendant rolls her cart on down the aisle we will just abstain from pop or alcohol and we’re good, done! Lent just means you give up something, right? If we think of Lent as a Journey and we just gave up drinking something on a journey, without any additional attention to details we wouldn’t get much further than the airport. Thus, what if we treated our Lenten journey with the same respect, time, & attention to detail that we would treat any other journey?
When you take a journey somewhere you need to:
