My must-haves is a symphony for the senses that help to comfort the body and warm the heart & soul. They include…

My favorite Pandora channel this time of year, Ray Charles Christmas, quietly playing in the background. The Christmas tree lights are on and the scent of cinnamon lingers in the room from the scented pinecones on the mantel.

The scent of cinnamon is only interrupted by the amazing aroma of Starbuck’s Christmas brew coffee warming my hands in my favorite coffee mug!

Essential oil remedies you MUST try! (Giveaway)

As most of you know I am a huge advocate for living a sustainable and green life. I have had numerous arguments with my husband over my ban on paper products in our home (I draw the line at toilet paper…we can wash napkins, we have real plates, cups, and utensils that can be reused. We washed cloth diapers & wipes. (FYI, with the cloth wipes our youngest only had a diaper rash once, in 2-1/2 years! I firmly believe that most rashes come from the disposable wipes).  And we don’t need paper towels, there is this thing called a dish towel and there are also rags). Why a sustainable and green lifestyle? My reasons are threefold, first and foremost for my children’s future and their children’s future, for the environment, and lastly, for my own conscious, kind of selfish I realize but at least I know I can sleep at night knowing I did my best that day with regard to my children’s future on this planet. But I have to be honest, as Kermit the frog once said, it isn’t easy being green.

There have been many trials and errors in the process of trying to synchronize our family’s needs with a green and sustainable lifestyle. I have tried so many products and have unfortunately been green washed more than I’d like to admit….darn that persuasive packaging and creative marketing champagnes!!! I have learned to always read the fine print, ingredients( are there any parabens, phthalates, sulfates, petrolatum, etc.), company history; you basically need to be a detective. Unfortunately there is someone out their working just as hard to stump you and tell you what you want to hear about a product. So perhaps I have grown a bit cynical and become a skeptic but can you blame me? In fact, I have entirely given up on some products and just started to make my own.

I have come to the conclusion that water, baking soda, olive oil, and vinegar are all I need to clean EVERYTHING in my home, seriously! I have been cleaning my home with those for the past 10 years and they do a remarkable job at killing bacteria, scrubbing the tub, polishing the furniture, etc. And then there is also the financial standpoint, we save so much money, and that is something my husband can’t argue with, ha-ha! However there can be a downfall, or should I say dilemma with regard to trying to achieve a sustainable and green lifestyle, it is what I like to call waste vs. carcinogen. Which I realize as I type this the answer should clearly be waste and unfortunately I have learned this one the hard way.

Are you familiar with those electrical outlet plug-in home air fresheners? Well recently a few lavender ones fell into my lap and even though I realized there were probably bad chemicals in them I figured how bad could they really be? And for such a short period of time, could they really cause any harm? And lavender is such a soothing sent. And besides I didn’t want to waste, I hate it when food, products, clothing, etc. is wasted. So I talked myself right into plugging them into the walls. Two days later both my son and I had bloody noses. And I figured it was due to the dryness in our home so I plugged in the humidifier and kept it running for the next few days but the bloody noses continued. Now, you should know that I have only had 6 bloody noses in my entire life and those were when I was pregnant so this was very unusual for me.  By the third bloody nose I came to the conclusion that it had to be something environmental and the only thing new in our home over the course of a week was the air fresheners. I removed them and guess what? No more bloody noses! But that soothing lavender sent was also gone, but not for long! A friend of mine told me about doTERRA essential oils and offered a sample for me to review. The results spoke for themselves my only regret was not using essential oils sooner, especially for first aid and my complexion.

dog_funfactory 018

Did you know that essential oils can be used for more than just fragrance? Many have strong health agents that are strong enough to kill viruses, bacteria, and fungi! While others help relieve headaches, calm hyperactivity, diminish depression, and stress and without any synthetic chemicals! I for one was surprised at all the benefits associated with essential oils. And I was surprised to learn that they can be administered internally, topically, and aromatically. After reading through all the amazing benefits and uses for essential oils can you guess what the first oil was that I used? Yep, lavender! I placed it in the humidifier at night and the children fell asleep fast, (and mom and dad shortly after), talk about magic. It felt like a spa in our home, it was so relaxing.

 spring 026

The next day I was so excited to try out other essential oils since our experience with the lavender oil was so successful.   The next essential oil I tried was melaleuca. (MELALEUCA – is a must-have first aid item!  There are slews of uses for this oil.  You can mix a teeny tiny bit with some coconut oil to make homemade diaper cream. It is beautiful on cuts and scrapes!  Antiseptic, antifungal and promotes healing.  It will not burn on even a fresh wound so that makes it extra amazing for use on the kids!! Melaleuca boosts the immune system in a unique and extremely effective way).  Since it is also supposed to be good for acne, which I still suffer from as an adult, I figured I would give it a try. So I first did a facial scrub with olive oil and sugar then wiped/dabbed melaleuca on my face.  And the result was beautiful youthful looking skin. So much so that I even got carded when I went to purchase a lighter for the grill, no joke! My skin is amazing now….and to think of all the money and time I wasted, it makes me sick to my stomach. Where was this in high school!?

artshowmya 016_0

Later that same day our daughter was showing signs of a cold so I applied onguard. (ONGUARD – Apply every 1-2 hours to the bottoms of the feet at the very first sign of sickness!  This blend contains oils that are very immune boosting and also anti-bacterial and anti-viral. Endless testimonials from people who have stopped even the flu in its tracks with this blend. Can use this to make nontoxic homemade hand sanitizers and household cleaners and this is a great therapeutic oil for anyone who gets sick frequently or has history of infections like mono, herpes viruses, etc.). The next day she was fine!

spring 031_0

Peppermint also proved to be extremely useful.  We hosted Easter at our home and during the commotion of the preparations, getting children ready, and ‘to do’ list running through my mind I had a horrific headache. I applied oil to the back of my neck and within 10-15 minutes the headache was gone! (PEPPERMINT – Headaches – back of neck.  Hot flashes or fevers – feet and back of neck.  Dilute with some coconut or vegetable based oil and apply to the tummy for belly aches.  Take a big whiff out of the bottle or from your hands for an instant pick me up.  Peppermint promotes focus so it is very nice diffused when the kids are doing homework).

I could go on and on telling you all the ways I have found this sample to be extremely helpful but your time is valuable and sometimes actions speak louder than words. So give essential oils a try, trust me, you will be glad you did! And as a special offer to readers my doTERRA consultant is offering a consultation for each of you (up to 30 minutes) so contact Tiffany today! Please feel free to email (tmparent@bex.net) or call (419-376-0931). Or check out her Facebook group, it is called The Essential Oil Life. She uses that group to share information about essential oils.

And now, the piece de resistance, the giveaway!!!

I have saved the best for last! Wild Orange! I have been wearing this every day! I put it on right when I get out of bed and it gives me such energy and harmony for what would otherwise be a typical stressful morning.  (WILD ORANGE – is adaptogenic and it’s cool in that it will promote harmony to the nervous system.  So, if feeling sluggish and or down in mood you can use it to lift energy and spirits.  However, it works beautifully to bring down out of control energy (hyperactivity, nervousness, etc.)).

Tiffany is giving away a 5ml bottle of doTERRA Wild Orange, the Spring ’14 doTERRA LIVING magazine, and a free 30 minute personal consult.

McDonald’s Clubhouse, date night destination? (and Giveaway)

Date Night. What comes to mind when I hear those two words? Date night to me means, momma having to do lots of cleaning/prep work, disagreements, too much money, and guilt all for a few measly hours away from home. And the final words that come to mind when I hear date night, not worth it! Sad, but true!

Cleaning and Prep work….

So this may come as a shock to some but my home is a mess, it is in constant motion. With an 8, 6, and 3 year old the tables, floors, and counters are constantly being cleaned off and then seconds later they are covered with play dough, Legos, Barbie’s, Art projects, etc. Thus, before a sitter enters the house momma has some cleaning to do, mostly de-cluttering (so at least the children can be located easily), vacuuming, etc. nothing to strenuous. But by the time I have finished cleaning, setting out the children’s PJs, and making certain everything is ready for the next morning the last thing I want to do is primp. I don’t want to shave my legs, put on a dress, and high heels. After running everyone around all day, walking through Costco (and lugging everything into the house), chasing down the dog, going up and down the steps with loads of laundry, and cleaning the house, putting my feet in high heels would be a form of torture, no thank you.

Disagreements over our destination….

What kind of food do WE have a taste for? Where do WE want to eat? I despise these questions. Why? Because WE can never come to an agreement! My husband is more of a meat and potatoes type of guy while I am more of a foodie. I want more gourmet cuisine. I am totally comfortable with a huge plate that has two bites of something on it, as long as those two bites are amazing. Meanwhile my husband would be complaining to the waiter and requesting, where is the rest of my food? Haha! You can see our predicament.

Too much money….

I must clarify; I am okay with a gourmet restaurant, within reason. The cost of a meal at some restaurants is ridiculous. Ever glanced through a menu, noted the prices, and then wished you would have eaten the rest of your 3 year olds Mac& Cheese back at home before your left? Darn that willpower! Maybe you’ll luck out and at least be able to lick the plate when you get home. So what do you do when the prices are too high? Why act like a lady of course, and order just a side salad. Besides, like mom always said, you can fill up on water and bread. Nothing says you worked your bum off today, catered to everyone’s needs, ran around like a mad momma let’s celebrate with water and bread. Maybe the hubs will be impressed with your practice of  self-control…that is until that bread basket shows up. Lol!

Guilt…..

Have you ever walked out of a restaurant and immediately felt the weight of guilt pressing down on you due to the exasperating amount you just spent on two meals? That was only for two meals?? I mean seriously, that one meal alone could have covered a semester of Junior’s college tuition. Going out to eat remorse, totally not worth it!

gymmcds 038

The solution to this date night dilemma….

The Clubhouse! The Bacon Clubhouse at McDonald’s. I know what you’re thinking, ‘please, McDonald’s, that’s a fast-food restaurant, not a date night destination’. But that’s the thing; the Bacon Clubhouse doesn’t taste like fast-food. It tastes like a ‘fancy’ Bistro sandwich (don’t worry; it is still messy enough to qualify as a man-sandwich and satisfy the meat and potato guy).

gymmcds 029

You have a choice of beef or chicken (crispy or grilled) comes with caramelized grilled onions, applewood smoked bacon, big mac special sauce, white cheddar, crisp left lettuce, fresh tomato on an Artesian Roll. YUM!

gymmcds 032

gymmcds 034

You don’t have to shave your legs, wear high-heels, or really even get a sitter…you could totally have the kiddos sit at the next table over…or there is always drive-thru Haha! Now that’s my kind of date night, no cleaning, no primping, amazing food for a reasonable price, and quality time with my hubby. Sold!

Monster Jam Fun!

My most favorite thing to do on this planet is to enjoy new experiences as a family. And yesterday’s experience ranks in my top ten! Yesterday we had the opportunity to attend Monster Jam! But wait, it gets better.  First we had Pizza in the Pits! The kiddos got to dig in the dirt, color, play, see the trucks up close, eat pizza and other yummy treats, and best of all, meet the drivers and get autographs!!

monsterjamfriday 042

monsterjamfriday 018

monsterjamfriday 013

monsterjamfriday 027

monsterjamfriday 005

monsterjamfriday 001

I have to be honest; the extent of my knowledge when it came to a Monster Trucks did not venture far beyond my son’s Hot Wheels trucks (which, on a SAHM budget doubles quite nicely as a back massage…just have them use your back as the track). So to see a Monster truck up close and actually look at all the workings was rather fascinating.

monsterjamfriday 030

The massive size of the wheels was astonishing. I was in shock when the driver said a new tire, one tire, cost between $2,500 and $3,000. And I thought the tires for the Yukon were pricy!!

monsterjam1Ribbet collage

The kiddos were so excited when they met the drivers, especially our 6 year old. He became a little star struck when he asked for their autographs; I never realized the volume of his voice could go so low…now I know. Haha! He really enjoyed the experience, in fact all 3 of them did. I was a little unsure of how they would react to the actual Monster Jam.

monsterjamfriday 047

monsterjamfriday 052
After Pizza in the Pit we located our seats. One word, AMAZING! The seats were perfect! We had a nice view of everything and the best part; Grave Digger and Dragon Breath were parked just beneath us. Those were the kiddos’ favorites.
The show started with a rumble and to my astonishment our 3 year old loved it! I was concerned because she is deathly afraid of thunder or any loud noises and apparently the bond she had made with the trucks before the show was enough to squash any anxiety.

monsterjamfriday 101

monsterjamfriday 096

And then the highlight of the night occurred…..

monsterjam2Ribbet collage

Grave Digger flipped!! And with it all the kids!! Our son thought it was so awesome especially when they had to call in reinforcements to help flip it over.

monsterjamfriday 092

And then our 3 year old lost it. She literally started crying because she thought the truck would be broken forever. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that our 3 year old little girl would be crying over a Monster truck. Nor did I ever think she would enjoy it so much.

We had such a wonderful time. It truly was fun for the entire family. The kiddos are already looking forward to going again! And in the meantime they are having fun recreating the event with their own Monster truck tracks, play-dough, and Monster trucks. Haha!

monstertruck 011

Have you ever been to a Monster Jam event? Have you seen a Monster truck up close? Are your kiddo’s fans of Monster trucks? Do you find those Hot Wheel ones all over the house?

Disclosure: I was given seats to Pizza in the Pit, tickets to Monster Jam, and kiddos received Hot Wheels Monster Jam Maximum deconstruction system, and other goodies. No other compensation was received, and all opinions expressed are my own.

Jewelry Giveaway!

The other day the girls ( 3 and 7 yrs. old) were practically begging to raid my jewelry box. Why? Was it the allure of the unknown that was so enticing? I personally hadn’t gone through that thing in ages. So after contemplating worst case scenarios I caved and let them go in search of their treasures. Ha-ha!

They ooh and aahed as they opened each drawer. Then they inquired on how I received each, when I wore it, and why I don’t wear it anymore. I have to admit they had a point. Why don’t I wear my jewelry?  Then I remembered, I became a mom and basically kissed my jewelry days goodbye. Why? Well for one, the fear of a child pulling or yanking and breaking an expensive piece of jewelry and possibly harming themselves or me in the process. Two, exhaustion! I feared losing jewelry simply because I was too tired to remember where I had placed it last. But the infant and baby days are behind me now. Perhaps it is time to venture back into the bling?

So I joined the girls in their endeavors and perused through my jewelry box. And what I found was that I did not have much in the way of variety when it came to my jewelry. Everything was silver. All necklaces were short. And most pieces looked formal. I was lacking casual, fun, colorful pieces. So what’s a girl to do? Go shopping of course. Haha! But what was I going to be able to purchase on a SAHM salary? Are there any jewelry stores around here that will accept hugs, kissing of boo-boos, and a mean meatloaf in return for a pair of earrings? Lol! So I figured I was out of luck. Then I checked my email and boy did my luck change!

I received an email for a local woman named Mindy who expressed that she was a Paparazzi Accessories consultant.  She explained that she sells trendy, affordable jewelry.  (PLEASE! I doubted her concept of affordable and mine coincided….she probably thought $50 was affordable for a necklace.) I continued to read. Turns our she has two younger kiddos so maybe she can relate? She stated that with the affordable prices of this jewelry moms can still stay fashionable. (Hmm…does affordable mean cheap?) She went on to explain that she makes sure all pieces hold up, and if you ever had a problem with a piece, will repair or replace it at no cost to you.  And then closed by stating that she would like to provide me with a matching set of necklace, earrings, bracelet and ring to review. (Um, YESSS PLEASE!). So we arranged a meeting for the following week.

After school the kiddos and I met up with her at a local coffee establishment. And let me tell you what unfolded was pure fun! The girls and I had a blast looking through all the jewelry.

jew_robotcan 005

jew_robotcan 006

And so much more…..

jew_robotcan 001

I had a difficult time deciding what I wanted given the amazing selection! While I contemplated between two of the longer necklaces she shared more about the Jewelry line.  Turns out her definition of affordable and mine were spot on! Each piece cost $5. That’s right, only $5!! Now that is my kind of jewelry. For that price the girls can borrow it. For that price I can be guilt free if I ever misplace a piece. For that price I can get a lot more jewelry!! For that price I can be a SAHM who wear jewelry!! I finally mad my decision…what do you think?

jewlry_churchpapajo 002

jewlry_churchpapajo 003

jewlry_churchpapajo 004

I wore my jewelry practically everyday for a week. I received so many compliment and I haven’t broke or lost a piece yet. I have even let the girls borrow the necklace and ring and they always get returned in one piece….that’s pretty impressive if you ask me.

She also carries adorable hair accessories that I simply have to get my hands on!! Click here to shop now! Oh, and I almost forgot. She also does Facebook parties. What it entails is you setting up an event and having a virtual party with all your friends and the best part, you would be the hostess and receive free jewelry and/or hair accessories. Awesome, right!? Click here and message Mindy today to set up your party (you heard me right, virtual party which means you don’t have to clean or cook. Haha!).

And last but not least, the GIVEAWAY!!….

Win $25 worth of jewelry and/or hair accessories (images below are just an example of options. You will decide which pieces you want)

McDonald’s Happy Meals: Calcium, Fruit, and Literacy? (Giveaway)

National Family Literacy Day is Nov. 1 and McDonald’s is inviting families to celebrate the joy of reading with the launch of a new Happy Meal Books promotion. From Nov. 1 – Nov. 14, McDonald’s will offer books in print for Happy Meal customers, providing more than 20 million books to families across the U.S. Throughout the two-week Happy Meal Books offer, families will be able to enjoy four original books featuring McDonald’s Happy Meal characters.

Here is a video the kiddos and I did expressing how we make reading an important part of our family (you totally have my permission to laugh…between the distinct root line of my hair and the kiddos comments this is rather amusing)

Also, as part of the launch of Happy Meal Books, McDonald’s is collaborating with Reading is Fundamental (RIF), the largest children’s literacy non-profit in the U.S., to help more children and their families discover the joy of reading. RIF will distribute 100,000 Happy Meal Books to children who do not have easy access to books.

“Books are essential for inspiring children to explore, dream, and achieve, yet far too many children do not have this basic resource,” said Reading is Fundamental CEO Carol Hampton Rasco. “To change this unfortunate reality, RIF is uniting with McDonald’s, a company that embraces the transformative power of books and is committed to helping families and communities thrive. Together, McDonald’s and RIF can truly help enrich kids’ lives through access to books and by putting the fun back into reading.”

 ronald-mcdonald-reading

The new books follow a number of enhancements McDonald’s has made to the Happy Meal over in recent years including:

•McDonald’s 2011 “Commitments to Offer Improved Nutrition Choices,” to ensure 100% of McDonald’s national kids’ communications include a nutrition or active lifestyle message.

•Since 2013, the automatic inclusion of apple slices, a smaller kids-sized fry and the choice of a low-fat dairy option like 1% low-fat white milk or fat-free chocolate milk.

•Since 2010, a portion of proceeds from each Happy Meal sold goes to support Ronald McDonald House Charities.

 mcdonalds4444

The four limited-edition books include:

•“The Goat Who Ate Everything” – Tells a story of a goat who has a big appetite and struggles to eat right. But when he does, he feels great and becomes the playful ‘kid’ everyone loves.

•“Deana’s Big Dreams” – Shares how Deana, the world’s smallest dinosaur, grew tall by eating right.

•“Ant, Can’t” – Features Ant, a bite-sized bodybuilder who’s big on encouraging physical fitness through exercise and eating right.

•“Doddi the Dodo Goes to Orlando” – Follows happy-go-lucky bird Doddi who travels the world. She eats right because this dodo is always on the go-go.

Clearly Happy Meals are not what they used. These are not your mommas Happy Meals, haha! Kudos goes out to McDonald’s for listening to the customers’ needs and for teaming up for such a great initiative, thank you!

McDonald’s Mighty Wings Review & Giveaway!!

Fall to me means, sweaters, lattes, crockpot recipes, pumpkin pie, carving jack-o-lanterns, leaves changing colors, jumping in leaves, and FOOTABLL!!

Whether the NFL or college, football is a time for friends, family, and fans to come together.  To gather and cheer, to show their team spirit, and at times even argue over whose team is better. But there is one neutral ground, where Browns and Steeler fans and Ohio State and Michigan fans can come together as one, the food table!!

The food table, where all fans can get their grub on. The dishes on the food table have been passed down from one generation to the nest and over the years only the real tried and true dishes have established a permanent residence there.  The chip and practically any dip, chili, chili dog, anything with the word chili in it, also anything with cheese in it or that is considered a finger food are big winners at the food table. But the NFL of the food table is the chicken wings!

So when McDonald’s contacted me and asked if I would be interested in reviewing McDonald’s Mighty Wings at our next football gathering I said heck yes! Then I got a little nervous. As stated, the chicken wings are like the NFL of the food table and what if the Might Wings failed? That would reflect badly on me, and I have a title to upholds as “awesome food wife”. Lol!

What are McDonald’s Mighty Wings?

Mighty Wings are tender, meaty, bone-in chicken wings that deliver a bold taste. They are breaded and seasoned with cayenne and chili pepper served in three sizes – 3 pieces, 5 pieces or 10 pieces. Plus, you can for choose from nine sauces to accompany them.

Game day arrived and while the guys were worried about their teams winning I was more concerned with whether or not the wings would qualify for the food table NFL status.

Everyone grabbed a wing, and then silence….followed by many comments.

“These are from McDonald’s!?”

“They got a kick to ‘em”.

“I like the variety of sauces…I can get three wings with different sauces instead of the messy Buffalo wings with one.”

“These are great!”

“Breading is good, like the crispiness.”

Well there you have it! I’d say that they qualified.  (Side note: isn’t it funny how guys sum up their experience in four words while women tend to take like 4 sentences…and men do not like to be photographed while women can’t seem to get enough, lol!)

My thoughts….

They are definitely bold.  They were a little spicy for my liking. But they are perfect for who they were intended for, guys!! And they are beyond perfect for football gatherings. Wives if you are hosting or need to bring something to the next game day gathering or tailgating I highly recommend swinging by McDonalds for some Might Wings! It will save you the time and energy of having to make something, ha-ha! And while you’re there get yourself a coffee drink…girl, you deserve it! Even better, what if you won a McDonald’s gift card and could use that for the wings and coffee?

Giveaway….

One lucky reader will win a $10 McDonald’s gift card!
