About the show

OVO, meaning “egg” in Portuguese, is a headlong rush into a colorful ecosystem teeming with life, where insects work, eat, crawl, flutter, play, fight and look for love in a non-stop riot of energy and movement.

When a mysterious egg appears in their midst, the insects are awestruck and intensely curious about this iconic object that represents the enigma and cycles of their lives. It is love at first sight when a gawky, quirky insect arrives in this bustling community and a fabulous ladybug catches his eye – and the feeling is mutual.

The cast of OVO is comprised of 50 performing artists from 12 countries specializing in many acrobatic acts. One highlight of OVO is the stunning Flying Act in which a group of scarabs soar high above the stage, from both edges to the middle landing on a platform.

Essential oil remedies you MUST try! (Giveaway)

As most of you know I am a huge advocate for living a sustainable and green life. I have had numerous arguments with my husband over my ban on paper products in our home (I draw the line at toilet paper…we can wash napkins, we have real plates, cups, and utensils that can be reused. We washed cloth diapers & wipes. (FYI, with the cloth wipes our youngest only had a diaper rash once, in 2-1/2 years! I firmly believe that most rashes come from the disposable wipes).  And we don’t need paper towels, there is this thing called a dish towel and there are also rags). Why a sustainable and green lifestyle? My reasons are threefold, first and foremost for my children’s future and their children’s future, for the environment, and lastly, for my own conscious, kind of selfish I realize but at least I know I can sleep at night knowing I did my best that day with regard to my children’s future on this planet. But I have to be honest, as Kermit the frog once said, it isn’t easy being green.

There have been many trials and errors in the process of trying to synchronize our family’s needs with a green and sustainable lifestyle. I have tried so many products and have unfortunately been green washed more than I’d like to admit….darn that persuasive packaging and creative marketing champagnes!!! I have learned to always read the fine print, ingredients( are there any parabens, phthalates, sulfates, petrolatum, etc.), company history; you basically need to be a detective. Unfortunately there is someone out their working just as hard to stump you and tell you what you want to hear about a product. So perhaps I have grown a bit cynical and become a skeptic but can you blame me? In fact, I have entirely given up on some products and just started to make my own.

I have come to the conclusion that water, baking soda, olive oil, and vinegar are all I need to clean EVERYTHING in my home, seriously! I have been cleaning my home with those for the past 10 years and they do a remarkable job at killing bacteria, scrubbing the tub, polishing the furniture, etc. And then there is also the financial standpoint, we save so much money, and that is something my husband can’t argue with, ha-ha! However there can be a downfall, or should I say dilemma with regard to trying to achieve a sustainable and green lifestyle, it is what I like to call waste vs. carcinogen. Which I realize as I type this the answer should clearly be waste and unfortunately I have learned this one the hard way.

Are you familiar with those electrical outlet plug-in home air fresheners? Well recently a few lavender ones fell into my lap and even though I realized there were probably bad chemicals in them I figured how bad could they really be? And for such a short period of time, could they really cause any harm? And lavender is such a soothing sent. And besides I didn’t want to waste, I hate it when food, products, clothing, etc. is wasted. So I talked myself right into plugging them into the walls. Two days later both my son and I had bloody noses. And I figured it was due to the dryness in our home so I plugged in the humidifier and kept it running for the next few days but the bloody noses continued. Now, you should know that I have only had 6 bloody noses in my entire life and those were when I was pregnant so this was very unusual for me.  By the third bloody nose I came to the conclusion that it had to be something environmental and the only thing new in our home over the course of a week was the air fresheners. I removed them and guess what? No more bloody noses! But that soothing lavender sent was also gone, but not for long! A friend of mine told me about doTERRA essential oils and offered a sample for me to review. The results spoke for themselves my only regret was not using essential oils sooner, especially for first aid and my complexion.

Did you know that essential oils can be used for more than just fragrance? Many have strong health agents that are strong enough to kill viruses, bacteria, and fungi! While others help relieve headaches, calm hyperactivity, diminish depression, and stress and without any synthetic chemicals! I for one was surprised at all the benefits associated with essential oils. And I was surprised to learn that they can be administered internally, topically, and aromatically. After reading through all the amazing benefits and uses for essential oils can you guess what the first oil was that I used? Yep, lavender! I placed it in the humidifier at night and the children fell asleep fast, (and mom and dad shortly after), talk about magic. It felt like a spa in our home, it was so relaxing.

 spring 026

The next day I was so excited to try out other essential oils since our experience with the lavender oil was so successful.   The next essential oil I tried was melaleuca. (MELALEUCA – is a must-have first aid item!  There are slews of uses for this oil.  You can mix a teeny tiny bit with some coconut oil to make homemade diaper cream. It is beautiful on cuts and scrapes!  Antiseptic, antifungal and promotes healing.  It will not burn on even a fresh wound so that makes it extra amazing for use on the kids!! Melaleuca boosts the immune system in a unique and extremely effective way).  Since it is also supposed to be good for acne, which I still suffer from as an adult, I figured I would give it a try. So I first did a facial scrub with olive oil and sugar then wiped/dabbed melaleuca on my face.  And the result was beautiful youthful looking skin. So much so that I even got carded when I went to purchase a lighter for the grill, no joke! My skin is amazing now….and to think of all the money and time I wasted, it makes me sick to my stomach. Where was this in high school!?

Later that same day our daughter was showing signs of a cold so I applied onguard. (ONGUARD – Apply every 1-2 hours to the bottoms of the feet at the very first sign of sickness!  This blend contains oils that are very immune boosting and also anti-bacterial and anti-viral. Endless testimonials from people who have stopped even the flu in its tracks with this blend. Can use this to make nontoxic homemade hand sanitizers and household cleaners and this is a great therapeutic oil for anyone who gets sick frequently or has history of infections like mono, herpes viruses, etc.). The next day she was fine!

spring 031_0

Peppermint also proved to be extremely useful.  We hosted Easter at our home and during the commotion of the preparations, getting children ready, and ‘to do’ list running through my mind I had a horrific headache. I applied oil to the back of my neck and within 10-15 minutes the headache was gone! (PEPPERMINT – Headaches – back of neck.  Hot flashes or fevers – feet and back of neck.  Dilute with some coconut or vegetable based oil and apply to the tummy for belly aches.  Take a big whiff out of the bottle or from your hands for an instant pick me up.  Peppermint promotes focus so it is very nice diffused when the kids are doing homework).

I could go on and on telling you all the ways I have found this sample to be extremely helpful but your time is valuable and sometimes actions speak louder than words. So give essential oils a try, trust me, you will be glad you did! And as a special offer to readers my doTERRA consultant is offering a consultation for each of you (up to 30 minutes) so contact Tiffany today! Please feel free to email (tmparent@bex.net) or call (419-376-0931). Or check out her Facebook group, it is called The Essential Oil Life. She uses that group to share information about essential oils.

And now, the piece de resistance, the giveaway!!!

I have saved the best for last! Wild Orange! I have been wearing this every day! I put it on right when I get out of bed and it gives me such energy and harmony for what would otherwise be a typical stressful morning.  (WILD ORANGE – is adaptogenic and it’s cool in that it will promote harmony to the nervous system.  So, if feeling sluggish and or down in mood you can use it to lift energy and spirits.  However, it works beautifully to bring down out of control energy (hyperactivity, nervousness, etc.)).

Tiffany is giving away a 5ml bottle of doTERRA Wild Orange, the Spring ’14 doTERRA LIVING magazine, and a free 30 minute personal consult.

What I Bought myself for Mother’s Day, 2 Apps every Super Mom MUST Have, and a Special Shout Out to YOU!

Okay, so I fell in love with this mug the moment I walked into Caribou the other day, I just had to have it. So, I did what any Super mom would do, I bought it for myself because if past experience has taught me anything it is that you sometimes need to purchase your own Mother’s Day gift. Please, don’t get me wrong, my eyes fill with tear the moment my children hand me those delicate imprints of their hands and I read those heart wrenching poems that coincide. You know the ones; the ones that make you want to come up with some secret potion to keep them small forever. Why must they grow, and why so fast?? And of course my hubby, God bless his soul, he does try to makes an effort to give me a Mother’s Day gift from the heart, kind of.  But if I have to fake a smile for one more gosh darn last-minute, convenience purchased, cheap, carcinogen based candle I might lose it! Seriously, I am not sure if he is aware of this or not but he has given me the same candle 3 years in a row, I have the proof.

So, long story short, instead of doing a woe is me pity party later, after the Mother’s day festivities I decided to purchase the mug for myself. This way I am guaranteed a smile Mother’s Day as I sip on my coffee from my new mug.  Despite what gifts and appreciation may, or may not be expressed on Mother’s Day I am already guaranteed a great day because my mug says I am a SUPER MOM!!

The mug got me thinking though, what does every SUPER MOM need in order to be, well, SUPER? Faith, patience, kindness, a sense of humor, love, tolerance, integrity, faith, a positive disposition, a sense of humor, fortitude, a sense of humor!! If you can’t tell, I think faith and a sense of humor need to be emphasized; you can’t take life or raising children too seriously and sometimes you will have those days when you only get by on a prayer. SUPER MOMs also need super support networks. A supportive family, friends, neighbors, etc. are a must otherwise you lose your mind and the SUPER. Then I started thinking about some of the more modern-day gizmos like technology, iPads, iPhones, etc. and the ways they support and encouraged the SUPER status. There are two must have apps that instantly came to mind.

Gube, it is wonderful, a true life saver in desperate moments.  You know those days when you are at your wit’s end and you feel like throwing in the towel but you still have 2 more errands on your list?  Well, Gube is the answer. Gube is an app that provides kid safe videos. Parent’s there is no need to worry about your toddler or preschooler stumbling across a provocative video on their search for Elmo or Yo gabba gabba. Gube provides parents with a catalog of pre-screened, moderated, and safe, yet fun, YouTube videos. Designed and developed by parents of toddlers for parents with young children. Paired with the BubCap (www.bubcap.com) home button cover, it turns your iPhone or iPad into a great learning and entertainment device!

Best part, as a special Happy Mother’s Day Gube is $0.99!! It is normally $3.99 but starting Friday May 11th– Sunday May 13th  it is $0.99, so be sure to get your app Friday! Moms this is a great gift to give yourself for mother’s day, trust me, you will thank yourself the next time you are waiting in the Doctor’s office, waiting in line at the grocery store,  going on vacation, or stuck in road construction (construction season is just around the corner).

The second app that is a must for a SUPER MOM is Rescuehood.  As many of you know I experienced a Scary Mommy Moment this spring while enjoying what was supposed to be a fun-filled memorable day at the zoo with my children and friends, but quickly became a nightmare.  As I express in Scary Mommy Moment: You can’t Find your Child!, there is panic and pure adrenaline that takes over your body when you can’t locate your child. It is a feeling that no mom, parent, or guardian should have to feel or experience. But if they do have the misfortune of experiencing this scenario Rescuehood is the ally you want on your side!

Rescuehood would instantly alert everyone in the area that a child is at risk, so a mass of people can mobilize into action and rescue the child fast. Rescuehood is an emergency broadcast social network however in order for it to work the technology needs to be on EVERY mobile phone in the world to help save children from harm. The founders are building awareness parent by parent, community by community.

Rescuehood is a must for every SUPER MOM and for that SUPER MOM’s support network. This app is FREE; please share with all you come in contact with today.

Now it is your turn to share, what helps you be the SUPER MOM you are? Do you have a support network, technological allies, or some other means for getting through parenthood, please share?

Lastly, I would like to take a second to give a special shout out to all the amazing Mom bloggers, followers, and friends, you rock!! You are all a part of my social support system, it is nice to read other moms banters and blessings, to know that I am not alone, that there are others who have experienced the same is comforting. To all the SUPER MOMS out there I hope you have a Happy Mother’s Day and God blesses all your efforts.

Added Bonus: The Ten Super Powers of Moms

Kirkland’s Grand Opening EVENT! (And great must read organizing tips for moms)

Moms mark your calendars!! On Saturday and Sunday, May 5 and 6 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Kirkland’s Home stores are having a grand opening of a new store in Crossroads Centre. You know the amazing Kirkland’s stores that contain everything you need to meet all your interiors’ design needs?  Yep, that’s the store!! But wait; it gets even better, not only can you shop where the designers shop (or at least this Interior Designer) but as part of the celebration, Toledo personal organizer and decorator, and owner of In Its Place, Ltd., Lori Eckel will be offering free one-on-one consultations.  (Okay, you have my permission to give out a woo-hoo!!)

The grand opening events will be the weekend before Mother’s Day. I think we all know a mom who can never find her keys, steps on toys in her house, or is always racing against the clock (and yes, I meet the criteria for all the above). So, in the spirit of crazy-busy moms everywhere, Lori has some great suggestions to help de-stress, increase productivity and creativity, get the family’s daily schedule flowing more smoothly, and actually make parents more punctual. Here are some of her tips and tricks:

·         Put limits on toys: The less they have, the more they actually play with them. If you don’t have the heart to purge the toys, then ROTATE them! Remember, the less they have, the less that needs to be picked up.

·         Drive through: You can run a lot of errands without ever getting out of the car – pick up prescriptions, dry cleaning, hit the bank and more. This way you’re not dragging the kids in and out of the back seat, you’re not making impulse purchases at the cash register, so you’re saving time and money, and not bringing home more stuff you don’t need.

·         Merge errands and make it family time: When the kids are old enough, leave one in the dentist chair, with one observing while the sibling is having his or her teeth cleaned. Meanwhile, mom can go shopping across the street with the third child. Then have the dentist’s office call on the cell phone when they’re done. Kills two birds with one stone!

·         Start chores from an early age: Kids love to help.  Start them out early and make them feel important when they accomplish small tasks.

·         Contain it: Setting aside a drawer for mail, bills, or kids’ drawings you want to keep isn’t helping. Get expandable file folders, a filing cabinet, or even collapsible storage containers – and use them.

Lori can help guests of the grand opening events get started on the baby steps to find out what systems or routines would work to keep their families organized. She can also help get plans in place to follow through. We may not all need professional help, but many of us aren’t solving our organizational problems alone.
