This morning I find myself deeply conflicted. I am sitting her, sipping coffee, and literally daydreaming about leggings, yes, I said leggings! I fear I may lose all self-control. My willpower is weakening by the hour. If I don’t give them away soon I am busting those suckers open and wearing them!!! You are probably thinking I have officially lost it, and perhaps I have, but I don’t want to go back to the way life was pre-LulaRoe!! My obsession started a couple days ago.

The leggings arrived in an ordinary, kinda plain, quiet, packaging, totally the opposite of the items held within. I tore that sucker open like a kid on Christmas morning. No tip-toeing around the adhesive side gracefully opening it, nope, when I was done with it you couldn’t even make out what it was originally. But I couldn’t help myself, I could hear the loud screams of the stylish leggings held within, I had to set them free, I had to see the funky, fun, fashionable designs! It was love at first sight! But wait, it gets better!

I tried them on and it was unlike any experience I have ever had with a pair of leggings! They were so unbelievably comfortable!! They felt the way my naked legs used to feel before I got married, when I would spend a crap load of money on fancy razors, shaving creams, and lotions, when I used to shave my entire legs. They were so silky smooth, like butter!! Clearly this was a match made in heaven because only the angels could have created something this magnificent! I never ended up taking that first pair off, I couldn’t go back, I had experienced comfort on a heavenly level; there was no way I was going back! I wore them all day and not once did I have to tug, adjust, or remove a wedgie. I was officially hooked and it wasn’t just me, they also have them for little girls. My little fashionista has request her entire wardrobe be LulaRoe!! (She slept in her legging, I had to beg her to take them off for bath time).

So you are probably wondering why the conflict? These LulaRoe legging sound amazing, why would I be remotely conflicted? Because I have two sweet pair sitting up on my nightstand right now, they look amazing, feel amazing, but they are not for me, I am going to share….I. AM. GOING. TO. SHARE!….I might still be trying to convince myself of that fact! I am not a selfish person, honest, I share everything, clothes, food, house, everything but my pillow & toothbrush (those are sacred!), but I fear I may have to add my LulaRoe to that short list! You can’t judge if you have never tired a pair, you just wouldn’t understand! Thus, I wasn’t going to run this giveaway until next week but my willpower is weakening by the hour! They are just so comfortable, stylish, compliment attractors, etc. Oh the agony! They have got to go, now!

At a playdate with friends the other day one of the moms turned to me and asked what my secret was? For a moment I stood perplexed. Why whatever did she mean!? Did she want to know if I had found the fountain of youth? Did I really look that good? I just started using a new shampoo; maybe I was rocking a sweet do? I couldn’t help but smile as I inquired,” what secret?”.

I would be lying if I said I wasn’t slightly bummed that she wasn’t inquiring about my natural beauty secret. But oh well! Haha! Her comment had me thinking, hmm….it had been quite some time since I lashed out in pure fury at the kids. I have been very calm, collected, happy, and focused. I haven’t felt irritable, furious, exhausted, or experienced a foggy head in quite some time. In fact, even when I had a doozie of a day when the garbage disposal, dryer, and food processor broke followed by the car breaking down the next day I still maintained my positive outlook. I do believe it is working? What is it? Happy Calm Focused.

Let’s Talk Salsa! (Giveaway)

May is national Salsa month! Woo-hoo! I don’t know about your family but salsa is a staple in our family, it is right up there with eggs and coffee (coffee being #1, eggs #2, and salsa #3…although, what’s the point of having eggs if there is no salsa? Right!? So, let’s make that salsa #2 and eggs #3).

Salsa tastes amazing on everything or simply by itself. There is no shame in standing in front of the fridge with the doors open sneaking a spoonful of salsa. All I ask is that you be respectful of others & plan ahead, if you want 3 spoonsful then grab 3 spoons, don’t use the same spoon each time.

Salsa is like a magic potion that can transform the worst dishes into something spectacular. I can’t tell you how many times I have just royally messed up dinner, undercooked, overcooked, burnt it, seasoned it with the wrong seasoning, you name it and I have probably done it, but thankfully salsa saves dinner every time! So, if for no other reason, have salsa on hand for the next time you burn dinner…just keep it right next to your fire extinguisher. Haha!

My latest salsa obsession….salsa in a baked avocado! It taste amazing! Thanks Floating Kitchen for the inspiration…and this pic, this is her delicious meal…mine burnt. No need to worry, the salsa saved the meal but it didn’t look as beautiful as hers. You seriously have to try this!! I also like my avocados with a huge heaping spoonful of Dei Fratelli seasoned diced Tomatoes…bake at 400 degrees for 8 minutes, remove, & drizzle with balsamic vinegar, so good!!!! Just make certain you set your timer. 😉

Here are some fun facts about salsa:

There are so many different types of salsas, Chili, Cherry, Corn, Mango, Black Bean, etc. it is fascinating! But sometimes the very best is the kind you make together as a family. Here is a great recipe to try with yours….the Dei Fratelli Secret Salsa. The secret is the Dei Fratelli Chopped Mexican Tomatoes & Jalapenos which add the perfect kick! (shhh)

Secret Salsa recipe

Ingredients:

2 cans Dei Fratelli Chopped Mexican Tomatoes & Jalapeños

5 – 8 Roma tomatoes

2 – 3 bunches Green onions, chopped

1 – 2 Red sweet onions, chopped

1 Lime

1 bunch Fresh cilantro, chopped

1 clove Fresh garlic, minced

1 small Jalapeño

Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation:

Combine all ingredients except lime, cilantro, salt, and pepper and jalapeno in a blow. Add cilantro last and salt and pepper to taste. Cut the ends of the jalapeno and leave whole in the bowl. Salsa tastes best if it has a few hours to mix flavors in the refrigerator before it is served. Serves 6-8.

Why Costco? (Giveaway $190 value!)

Fact, my 4 year old jumps up & down at least 8x a day! She will pretty much start jumping for any reason, like seeing a bird, not wanting to go to bed, because it is Monday, etc.

Fact, I am an adult. Fact, I do not jump up & down 8x a day. Fact, I do jump up & down like my 4 year old daughter twice a month. There is only one thing in this world that makes this 35 year old woman jump up & down like a preschooler flaring limbs about, and that is, a trip to COSTCO!!!

I am getting excited just thinking about our next trip!! Why? Why would a grown woman be so excited to go to Costco? (In no particular order)

1. Samples- Um, hello! Who doesn’t love samples? I adore the fact that you can try it before you buy it especially when you have a picky eater at home. Thankfully my pickiest eater accompanies me so she can sample too! Another added bonus of the samples is it gives my 4 year old something to look forward to in-between isles & the food occupies her mouth for lapses of time so I can actually enjoy a moment of silent (so wrong, but, so true! Haha!)

2. Cost- Total disclosure, Costco is where I get half my wardrobe. I know it sounds silly but they have comfortable, modern, classy, even fashionable outfits & they cost WAY less than the department stores! They also have clothing for men too…great picks for Dads (wink, wink, Father’s Day is coming up!) and then there is the kids’ clothes, books, toys, etc. I buy all birthday & baby shower gifts there (jigs up on that one! haha!). And I also fill up the gas tank before I leave since it is always cheaper than the other stations (Costco is literally my one stop and shop for everything place!)

3. Quantity- I think this one is a no brainer!! Haha!

4. Quality- Sometimes people have this idea that if you buy more it somehow makes the quality less and that could not be further from the truth when it comes to Costco. The quality of their food is amazing. I am a huge fan of their produce. My favorites are the Organic Spinach (I often buy two…I am a spinach freak!), strawberries, melons, peppers, and I could go on and on. What I like most about Costco is if you do get home and realize you purchased say, a bad melon, they will happily exchange it. The customer service is amazing!

5. Selection/Variety- We recently made a HUGE change in our house, we stopped eating cereal and have cut way back on all breads/grains. I was afraid that maybe I wouldn’t be able to shop Costco anymore and Costco is this Kat’s meow (too much?). Thankfully what I found, once I stopped honing in on all the stuff we couldn’t get anymore, is that Costco offers a nice variety of foods for all diets and lifestyles. Checkout all the goodies I purchased at my last visit!

6. The people- Last but certainly not least, the people who work at Costco are the nicest!! They are always so sweet with my daughter…her second favorite part of Costco is the smiley face she receives on the back of our recipe. The cashiers are always so kind and friendly. In fact I have even befriended a few…maybe I spend too much time there? But they don’t talk back to me, they listen, it is like a mini vacation for moms. Lol!

There you have it folks, Costco is a mom’s mini-vacation destination! Haha! It will have you jumping up and down like a 4 year old in anticipation for your next trip! No joke!

And Guess What!!! I have some exciting news to share!! Costco will be giving birth to a new store in Perrysburg, OH June 11^th 2015!! As far as I know it is a drug free birth…hopefully it won’t be a water birth but if it is just bring your umbrella! 😉

I must admit, if you would have asked me my thoughts on ageing 10 years ago my reply would have been a negative one. And why not!?! Everything I had seen on television, in magazines, conversations with friends, etc. told me that once you get grays & wrinkles your life was pretty much over; you mine as well curl up into a ball and wait to die. Nothing about getting old seemed glamorous. Old people always complain about this breaking, that not working like it used to, etc. Ugh! Who looks forward to aches, pains, & complaining? No thank you! But that mentality has changed entirely! Now I am all, bring it on baby! Bring on the wrinkles, grays, varicose veins, menopause, etc. Why the sudden change? (Haha…no pun intended!) 3 words, Magnificent Role Models!!!

I have a new outlook on old and it is beautiful thanks to the amazing role models paving the way for all us advancing in age gals (FYI-that is all of us). Advancing in age, style, grace, life, love….advancing never sounded so good, so inviting!! So who do I have to thank for this new take on life? The gals from the absolutely amazing blog, Advanced Style (all 50+), the new Bond girl/woman, Monica Bellucci (50), the latest glamour girl to join L’Oreal Paris, Helen Mirren (69), and my remarkable mother (60).

If you have Netflix you have got to check out the documentary, Advanced Style. You will be glad you did! It follows around 5 advanced in age fabulous ladies! Each has their own magnificent sense of style. Each lives their life to the absolute fullest! I love the fact that there is a 95 year old who never retired her style. A 93 year old who makes her own wild eyelashes & still teaches art classes!! A 60 year old who lives her dream of being recognized!! Did I mention I am loving these ladies!!! And Helen Mirren is absolutely breathtaking at age 69! Finally!!! We are embracing all that is life, wrinkles, gray, etc. Life isn’t over at 50. In fact, my mother has told me it gets so much better…she explained it in such a magnificent way that practically had me longing to be 60!

She said menopause isn’t that horrible thing that everyone makes it out to be. It is marvelous! Imagine being able to wear white whenever you want, no more cramps, no more having to buy sanity products…there are much more fun ways to spend money & time! It is freedom! And embrace the gray & silver. Be yourself. You will always look beautiful when you do. God didn’t get it wrong. Don’t fight it. Embrace age. Love yourself. Life gets better. But do take care of yourself so you can enjoy your life. Exercise so you can live your life to the absolute fullest. Take good care of your skin, bones…your body. Nurture the soul. Live!

Thus, I am taking her wise advice…though I am only in my 30 I know I need to start a maintenance regime now. My husband and kiddos all have amazing eyelashes…long, dark, beautiful lashes. I on the other hand am lacking in the eyelash length. So when I heard of Younique I was intrigued but had a few questions.

It’s mascara! It’s not false eyelashes or extensions. You do not have to glue anything to your face or your lashes. It’s a three (quick) step process. Gel. Fibers. Gel. All goes on just like normal mascara.

Can you feel it?

Nope. Lashes are soft. Touchable. Safe for contact lens wearers (like me).

How do you get it off?

Soap and water. 10 seconds. Literally. Not like other waterproof mascaras where you have an oil slick down your face. Actually washes off easier than my non waterproof mascara.

Do I have to use it every day?

Nope. It’s not a lash grower. It’s mascara. Put it on when you want to. (Which will be everyday because it’s the bomb diggity)

This stuff actually adds length to your lashes. Not like regular mascara. There are little natural fibers that you apply after the transplanting gel and then seal with the final coat of transplanting gel. You will literally see the length of your lashes grow as you apply it. It stays on all day and is water resistant. This is the best stuff I’ve ever come across!

It was simple to apply, didn’t take any longer than I would normally spend doing my eye makeup. ..in fact now that I have lashes I don’t feel the need to apply eyeliner and shadow.
