This has helped renew hope, strength, & brightened our quarantine days!

Fan on, faucet running, & cue the waterworks! I sat on the cold bathroom floor, tears flowing, & heart breaking.  We have always raised our children with the age old philosophy of, “work hard, play hard”, work hard at school (that’s your “job” as a child), come home, do homework, and chores, and then you can have free time.  As a daily philosophy it works great.  As a yearly, or worse, lifetime philosophy it is flawed, deeply flawed!  Enter COVID-19 and a global pandemic! We Finally Cracked Under Quarantine

It finally happened!  After one month of all 5 of us being locked up in a house together it finally happened! And we were doing so well. We had maintained a schedule, a routine, just like all the professionals advised.  The hubs would get up and “go to work” 7AM-7PM, kiddos would start school around 9 or 10AM, we’d go on a walk in the afternoon, finish up school around 4PM,  all come together for dinner, & then rinse and repeat.  SO what happened? Cadbury Eggs, chocolate bunnies, Reese’s Eggs, jelly beans, bunny shaped everything, etc. the aromas of chocolate, the sea of pastels, it’s just too hard to resist! After all, Easter only comes once a year and the kids won’t be young forever, so why not splurge? That was my logic in the past, but we are quarantined! We can’t break the bank. But that doesn’t mean we totally have to skimp…it just means we need to be a bit cleverer when assembling the baskets. This year our Easter basket budget is $12 a basket. Sure our parents, grandparents & great grandparents had to endure far worse, with World Wars, Great Depression, Vietnam, etc. Meanwhile the only war we’re possibly waging is War of the Roses (and I’m not talking about the English Civil Wars, we’re talking the movie with Michael Douglas & Kathleen Turner, 1989). So here are some tips to help you survive being quarantined with your spouse & kids for the unforeseeable future…… Read more
